Canada is facing the most consequential election in many years…. More than ever before, we need to send Mike de Jong KC, an experienced legislator, to Ottawa to represent our region!

Abbotsford South-Langley is a new federal constituency for the upcoming 2025 federal election, whenever that occurs – probably sooner rather than later! There is currently a Conservative nomination campaign underway to elect their candidate in this key constituency within our South of Fraser region. We have reviewed all of the candidates running and conclude there is one candidate that is head and shoulders above all others.

We are proud to endorse Mike de Jong KC as our choice to represent Abbotsford South-Langley for the Conservative Party in the upcoming federal election!

We don’t need to send any more inexperienced or political want-to-be’ s to Ottawa! Our reasons follow!

Consequential Challenges – Canada is facing many very consequential challenges due to the mis-management of the current federal government over the past 10 years! The economy, immigration numbers, revolving door justice system, housing, out of control debt management and so much more. We cannot continue to see and watch our countries living standards and reputation world-wide decline – there is just too much to be proud of! The need for fiscal prudence is a necessity.

Experience in Ottawa is needed – I am not going to mention the names of the other candidates running for this nomination as it is not my intention to openly criticize their backgrounds or intent, but it is my intent to highlight our reasons for supporting Mike de Jong KC. Mike is a lawyer and has been elected for 30 years as a provincial MLA, representing Matsqui, Abbotsford Mount Lehman and Abbotsford West over those years and constituency redistribution! Being elected for 30 years speaks volumes for his reputation for hard work and accomplishment on behalf of is community and the province.

He has served for a number of years in cabinet – as Minister of Labor and Citizens Services, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation, Attorney General, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, Minister of Health, and Minister of Finance.

Prime Ministers can only select Cabinet Ministers from the MPs elected? In my better than 45-years of experience in politics, at all levels, I haven’t seen anyone in a better position or with more experience to take on a major cabinet portfolio in Ottawa than Mike de Jong. That opportunity, should it occur, puts British Columbia and the South of Fraser Region in a prime position to be listened to at the Federal Cabinet table in a very serious way, something that has been absent for decades!

Supports the reactivation of the 99 km Interurban rail transit corridor – Mike de Jong declares unconditional support for reactivating the 99 km Interurban Passenger Rail Transit corridor between the Pattullo Bridge and the city of Chilliwack! This is a show of vision for our region! He will be its political champion in Ottawa supporting housing and transit!

Do you want to see a reactivated 99 KM Interurban Passenger Rail Corridor between the Pattullo Bridge and the City of Chilliwack? We need your help to support Mike de Jong’s nomination for candidate – Abbotsford South-Langley!

The South Fraser Community Rail Society has been working non-stop for many years securing government’s support to reactivate the 99 km publicly owned (with passenger rights) public transit rail corridor South of Fraser – Pattullo Bridge to Chilliwack. They have garnered unparallelled support:

  • Public Support – ResearchCo (Mario Canseco May/21 Poll) – 88% support South of Fraser, N. Delta to Chilliwack! Abbotsford 93%, Chilliwack 89%, N. Surrey 83%, Township of Lang. 82%, City of Lang. 76% and North Delta 85%!
  • Post-Secondary Support – Members of South of Fraser Community Rail Task Force support Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Trinity Western University and University of the Fraser Valley.
  • Post-Secondary Support – Univ. of the Fraser Valley Student Union Society
  • Municipal Support – Township of Langley UBCM – AGM Resolution June 26/23!
  • Municipal Support – Delta, Surrey, White Rock, Lang. City, Township of Langley, Abbotsford (2009) and Chilliwack (2019) supported passenger rights renewal.
  • NEW Municipal Support – Lower Mainland Local Government Association (LMLGA) 30 members endorsed this initiative at Whistler AGM – May 2024.
  • Business Support – Surrey Board of Trade support July 9th, 2021
  • Business Support – Hydrogen B.C. / Canadian Hydrogen Fuel Cell Assoc.(CHFCA) support Aug. 2023 supporting B.C.’s Hydrogen Industry!
  • Indigenous Society Support – B.C. Indigenous Housing Society!
  • Fraser Valley Rail Pre-Feasibility Study – Ind. B.C. Government Study July8/22.

The benefits of this initiative are significant and PRICELESS for the environment, the economy, affordable public transit, for housing initiatives, for community resilience, and reliability!
